Resources for Referees
Blitz Soccer Needs Referees!
Cañon City Blitz Soccer is always looking for new referees! If you have a passion for soccer and for working with youth players, then we want you! Anyone who is older than 13 years of age can become a U.S. Soccer Certified Referee. Follow the links below for more information.
CSA’s Referee Program
New referees become certified by completing the Colorado First Time Referee Course which includes online learning modules and an in-person session. Returning referees must complete an annual Recertifying Referee Course. For referees 18 and older, licensing also includes annual SafeSport Certification and a background check. All referee courses and certifications are done through the U.S. Soccer Learning Center. Click the button below for more information.
Costs of Referee Certification
There are costs associated with becoming a U.S. Soccer Certified Referee. The fees include annual registration with U.S. Soccer and Colorado Soccer, the cost of the training course, and the cost of a background check for anyone age 18 or older. Referees are also required to purchase an official uniform kit. Cañon City Blitz Soccer will compensate new referees for some or all of the costs of certification; contact Blitz for more information at president@canoncitysoccer.com.
Referee Pay and Assignments
Referee pay rates are set by Colorado Soccer Association and are adjusted for each new seasonal year. Pay rates per game are dependent on the referee position, experience level, and the age level of the teams playing. As an example, for the Fall 2024 season the rate for for an Assistant Referee for the youngest age group (U11-U12) was $25 per game; for a center Referee at the oldest age group (U17-U19) the rate was $95 per game. Current referee assignment and pay can be found on the Colorado Soccer's Referee Program website.
