Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to play Blitz soccer?
The fees for each season are $150 per player. A $50 deposit is required at time of registration with the remainder due at the beginning of the season. If the club does not have enough players to register a team for your child’s age group, the registration fee will be fully refunded.
Players are also responsible for purchasing uniform kits, which may be used for multiple seasons, and typically run about $75.
Are there discounts or scholarships available?
Yes! We offer discounts for families with multiple players; each sibling registered after the first player receives a discount of $25 each. Family discounts are automatically applied when registering multiple players in the same family.
Blitz also offers scholarships which cover up to $75 of the registration fee for a player, if approved by the Board. We will also work with families to create payment plans if needed. For more information or to get a scholarship application, contact the club treasurer Liz Leone at treasurer@canoncitysoccer.com (719) 242-4421.
Where do we purchase uniforms for Blitz?
On top of club fees, players purchase their own uniform kits from Soccer.com which currently runs about $75 for home and away jerseys, shorts, and socks. Parents will receive information about purchasing a uniform after players are placed on a team. For returning players, uniforms may be used for multiple seasons. Younger players often wear hand-me-down jerseys from their older siblings. We strive to make the jerseys consistent year after year so older uniforms can be worn.
Why does it cost so much to play for Blitz?
Registration fees are collected to pay the seasonal Colorado Soccer Association league team and referee fees, which currently are about $1100 per team. The Blitz Soccer Club also pays for insurance, player registration program, equipment for teams, and field striping. Coaches and team managers receive a modest stipend equal to one player registration fee; Board members are all unpaid volunteer positions.
Cañon City Blitz Soccer is proud to have some of the lowest registration fees in Colorado for competitive league soccer. Other clubs we play against often cost many times over what we pay in fees. We are able to offer affordable rates because we are a volunteer-run, not-for-profit organization, and we believe that money should not be an obstacle for youth players to experience the growth, challenge, and joy of competitive club soccer.
How much traveling is required for Blitz teams?
Each season (Fall or Spring) teams play 4 home games and 4 away games. Home games are played at Mountain View Park in Cañon City. Away game locations are typically along the Front Range, most often in Colorado Springs or the Denver Metro Area, but can be as far as Steamboat Springs or Cheyenne, Wyoming. This means teams travel four days per season with travel usually within a distance that does not require overnight stays. Parents arrange travel and carpooling.
Teams may choose to participate in additional non-season tournaments that require travel. These are optional and are organized by each team and coach.
How do I know if my child is ready for club soccer?
Blitz Soccer is for any player who is interested in moving up from recreational play into a more competitive environment, nurture their love of the game, and build a lasting team bond with like-minded boys or girls. Most of our players start playing organized soccer at the recreational level. They typically are ready to grow their skill level both technically (personal soccer skills) and tactically (team play understanding). Club soccer prepares players to compete at the high school level and beyond. Players who are interested in playing high school soccer are more likely to succeed there with a background of playing at the club level.
Are there tryouts for Blitz soccer teams?
Not at this time. Players interested in playing Blitz soccer are placed on teams based on age and sex. We typically have player numbers for only one team per age group so tryouts are not required. Tryouts may be instituted at any time based on input from the Blitz Board of Directors and Blitz coaches.
What other youth soccer programs are available in Cañon City?

Cañon City High School offers Varsity and JV soccer programs for both boys and girls. Florence High School offers girls soccer. Boys who attend Florence High School may play soccer for CCHS. For more information, please contact CCHS or FHS.
Where can I purchase Blitz fan gear?

Fan gear can also be custom ordered through several local printing companies including Bubba’s Sporting Goods. Periodically, Blitz partners with local printers to do fundraisers for ordering apparel and other items.

Do we have to commit to both the Fall and Spring seasons?
No, we do not require a commitment for both Spring and Fall seasons. However, players who can commit to both seasons help their teams by fostering unity and continuity from season to season as well as gaining personal experience and skill. While this is ideal, this is certainly not required. For high school aged players, Blitz only has teams during the season that is opposite the CHSAA soccer seasons. Boys play for the high school in the Fall and for Blitz in the Spring, while the girls play Blitz in the Fall and for their high school in the Spring.
Can my child play other sports at the same time?
Yes, Blitz soccer players are often involved in multiple sports and other activities which overlap with the soccer season. We recognize the benefits that playing multiple sports can bring to our young athletes, supporting their overall physical and mental development. It can create challenges within the team, so clear communication between parents and coaches is essential. Missed practices and games can hurt the competitive nature of Blitz teams. Overuse injuries can happen to players involved in multiple sports during the same season. These players (and their families) work with their coaches to manage expectations, schedules, and the health of the players. Our coaches are excited to see young players succeed on and off the soccer field, athletically and in other activities.
Does Blitz Soccer have a program for younger kids?
Blitz teams play in leagues offered by the Colorado Soccer Association. At this time the leagues available are limited to teams that are U-11 (typically age 9 and 10) and older. Players that are younger than that are encouraged to continue to grow their skills through the recreational programs in the community, and participating in informal community pick-up soccer games.
